Agony Aunt: Beauty and Outfits
Dear Emma,
I have very oily skin that is very shiny. I've tried all kinds of concealers, powders, all sorts but it never goes away. I'm dreading the wedding photos and am so embarrassed about my skin that I really don't want to hire a make-up person for the day. Do you have any suggestions?
Mary, Bath
Dear Mary,
Well, my best suggestion is to get a beautician to do your make-up on the day! I know you are nervous about this, but they have dealt with every skin type out there and will know exactly what to do to make sure the shine stays away. Arrange a consultation and practice beforehand so that you get to know them and you get a chance to talk through your worries. If you know that a little bit by the day, I'm sure it will make you feel less embarrassed.
Dear Emma,
I would love to have a chic hairstyle for the big day, something like a French pleat or chignon but my hair is very fine and thin to the extent that I am embarrassed to ask my hairdresser to try putting it up. Do you have any suggestions?
Sally, Edinburgh
Dear Sally,
You'd be amazed at how good hairpieces are these days. There are many different types but the best for you may be one that is attached to a large clip that can be worn as a ponytail. These are very full and can be pinned in such a way to look like a chignon. They come in many shades and one can usually be matched to your hair colour. Then all your hairdresser needs to do it sweep back and pin your hair, then attach the hairpiece over the top of your own ponytail and style it. Look online for specialist companies, and they often have a stall at the big national wedding shows with free demos too.
